Who is Mark Margeson?
ONE OF US WHO STAYED WITH US:
Mark was born and raised in Horseheads and has lived in Chemung County nearly all of his life. He is a graduate of Notre Dame High School and Springfield College. Mark and his wife Sandra have been married for more than 40 years. After working elsewhere with Hilton, they chose to stay here in Chemung County to raise their two children here.
CREATING JOBS AND BUILDING A LOCAL BUSINESS:
Mark has been in the insurance industry for more than 40 years. He currently owns Margeson Insurance Agency in Horseheads. He also has background in the hotel industry and the general aviation industry.
HELPING CHEMUNG COUNTY NEIGHBORS
Mark learned the importance of community service from his parents. He has given his time as board member and volunteer for many organizations, including:
- Chemung County YMCA
- Chemung County Senior Center
- Family Services
- Able II
- American Red Cross
- Elmira Rotary Club
- United Way
- Horseheads Youth Bureau
PROTECTING CHEMUNG COUNTY TAXPAYERS:
PROTECTING CHEMUNG COUNTY TAXPAYERS: Mark ran for the Chemung County Legislature and was elected in 2018. He is currently Chair of the legislature and the Chemung County IDA. Mark has record of protecting your tax dollars including:
- Decreased the tax levy by $5.5 million as part of a team of legislators.
- Worked to get the Arena back in private hands to eliminate the burden on taxpayers, spur development downtown, and increase sales tax revenue for county taxpayers.
- Created new opportunities at the airport to increase jobs and revenue such as attracting new tenants to 71 Aviation Drive.
- Brought the Incubator Works program to Chemung County which has spurred more than 40 new small businesses throughout the county.
- Passed term limits to keep government in the hands of taxpayers – not politicians.
- Worked with fellow legislators to obtain $1,000,000 in ARC funding for the development of the Federal Qualified Health Center for Chemung County.
- Supported funding for the treetop walkway being developed at Tanglewood Nature Center to increase tourism.
- Secured funding for Horseheads BMX track promoting tourism and development.
- Secured funding for the Erin Town WoodFest promoting tourism.
